A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
