Everyday tennis enthusiasts will have the chance to claim A$1m when they face tennis' top professionals - headed by top-ranked the Spanish champion - in a single-point showdown before the Australian Grand Slam

Event planners of the year's first Grand Slam have announced the Seven-Figure Quick-Fire Competition, which will match 10 amateur players against elite athletes in a knockout tournament at Melbourne Park

The Unique Competition Operates

Competitors are set to play 'the decision-making game' to decide who serves or receives, and the competitor securing the point will progress to the next round

The victor of the event will receive a significant cash prize

By comparison, players who made it to the final four of the primary tournaments in the 2025 Australian Open won over a million Australian dollars

Previous Related Competitions

The American Grand Slam hosted a restructured, independent combined gender tournament in the eighth month which prompted top singles players to participate, with the victors receiving one million US dollars

The year's first major held its debut One Point Slam earlier this year, but the total purse was a smaller amount and it had limited exposure

The Russian player was the sole elite competitor involved, and his campaign concluded when he put the one and only serve permitted into the net in his last eight match

Tournament Information

Planners have not specified precisely how the event will operate, but it is projected to emulate a comparable structure to the most recent iteration

The top competitors will be granted to serve once and the everyday players on two occasions - as is the norm in conventional tennis

While it is unclear how the draw will work, there will be five knockout rounds and the venue will be the primary court rather than the alternative court

The final stages will take place in a evening slot instead of early afternoon

Entry Details

Any Australians - or foreign participants who have signed up with the governing body - can compete in 'One Point Slam' competitions at their neighborhood facilities

The winners of the grassroots tournaments will then go into a random pairing, with a single non-professional from every state and territory selected to compete in the 'championship round' in a nighttime event on the specified date

There will also be a qualifying draw in late year which amateurs, aspiring competitors, celebrities and athletic celebrities can compete in

It begins on Monday, 12 January and the two winners will qualify for the following day's 'grand finale' with the remaining non-professionals and 10 professionals

"No matter your experience, the ultimate winner will claim the prize. Applications will start imminently at facilities throughout the nation"

Event organizers said there were "more big names to be revealed shortly", while the official website mentioned "well-known figures" would be participating
