A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project seeks to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.

A Chance for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”

Defiant Message of Self-Determination

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.

“It has a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”

Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians

The single was laid down following a solidarity show held in the autumn. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the performance was cut from the show due to time constraints.

The notable list of musicians appearing on Lullaby includes a range of acclaimed names from the music world. All took part in the benefit event, which successfully generated a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was brought to life by a group of talented individuals. The song features a fusion of the heritage language with freshly written English words.

The group managing the campaign have stated that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These resources will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.

“We haven't set a specific target,” a figure commented. “We will pursue as much as possible. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”

The context in the region was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of property said to be destroyed or damaged.

“In that context, a couple of million won't make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is above all raising awareness for this issue and proving the human dimension of the story.”

The song is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
