Iran Reports Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted wreckage landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
