Tetris Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Whenever a major honors show draws close, one notices a demand to include additional classifications to recognize unsung work and fill the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often small games, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge of video game design, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
