Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the soft-colored suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

His passing follows shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments made him a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles mourns the loss to a true visionary whose impact on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
