Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.
The creative mastermind could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”
As the debut season of the hit sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.
About the Incredible Viewer Reception
It would be easy to get swayed by the rampant praise and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.
“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”
“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.
The Central Mystery: Will the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?
So if the writers are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.
“We've developed some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to abandon a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
Alternatively, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.
“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Alternatively, one could always use the iconic TV endings?
“I want Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
