Wimbledon Embraces Video Review Technology in 2025.

The Championships court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in implementing video review technology.

Video review systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Players are granted the right to challenge specific calls made by the official, echoing the protocol already in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

This innovation will be operational on the main stadium and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This step follows just a year after the All England Club implemented ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line judges.

Reviewable Decisions

Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to re-examine specific decisions, including:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance end of a point.

Importantly, there is no cap on the number of reviews a competitor can ask for.

Case in Point

A recent example took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

Draper conceded it was a tough situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "played the rules effectively."

The umpire viewed a replay and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

Video reviews are not exclusive to Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at every one of its tournaments.

Further Updates

Another innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This addresses instances where the crowd have sometimes been uncertain if a shot was out or in.

Finally, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
